Kwik Trip, a Wisconsin-based convenience store chain, is adding electric vehicle (EV) chargers at multiple locations across the Midwest. This initiative is part of their Kwik Charge program, which aims to cater to the growing number of EV drivers while offering the same level of convenience and quality that Kwik Trip is known for. Scott Zietlow, CEO and president of Kwik Trip, emphasized this vision, stating that EV drivers will be able to charge their vehicles while enjoying all the in-store offerings available.
The newly installed direct current (DC) fast chargers will come equipped with both Combined Charging System (CCS) and North American Charging Standard (NACS) connectors, making them compatible with most EVs on the road today. Notably, the power output of these chargers will vary depending on the number of vehicles connected. If four vehicles are charging simultaneously, the power will be distributed at a minimum of 150kW per charger. However, if only one vehicle is connected, the power can go up to 400kW — an impressive capacity that ensures faster charging times, especially critical for long-distance EV drivers.
In line with their customer-centric approach, Kwik Trip is also rolling out a mobile app that allows users to check charger availability, pricing, and find the nearest stations along their route. This move is designed to further streamline the EV charging experience for Kwik Trip’s customers.
Additionally, Kwik Trip has secured $23.2 million in federal funding from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation as part of the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program. These funds will support the installation of EV chargers across 24 Kwik Trip locations, helping Wisconsin build its first comprehensive statewide charging network.
